The Rainbows sessions are of course mainly to prepare the children for the Brownies, but the children are given an appreciation of what the movement is all about and the fact that the organisation is world-wide. The activities of the Rainbows are designed to begin to develop the skills and understandings, which they will need both in their personal development and in the Brownies and Guides.
Both the Brownies and the Guides of course gain recognition in the form of badges for the skills they acquire in activities such as reading, swimming, photography, writing, stargazing, etc.
The focus of the evening is of course to have fun and both the Brownies and Guides get a lot of satisfaction from the many craft sessions which are a regular feature of most evenings. The various craftwork sessions include making cards(Xmas, Mother's Day, etc.), calendars, posters and extend to cooking, community work, entertainment and many other activities.
Games are of course an ingredient with which every week's sessions are liberally flavoured. It is through the games, the children, learn about each other and how to interact positively as a member of a group.
Topics will often be discussed, to enable the children to learn about other's views and about respecting the opinions of others . Group activities also extend to joining with other local Brownies and Guide groups in the area, as well as the more intimate Camp Fire Evenings, held at the Church Hall. The older groups also learn in more detail about the Guide movement in other countries, and gain a wider understanding of the different cultures of the world.

Guides
Before the guides reach the upper limit of 15, they're encouraged to train as Young Leaders from 14 - 16 years. Once they've completed this course they become Rangers, which covers the age group of 15 to 18 years.
Further personal development is provided by the movement in the form of the Adult Leadership Course, which Rangers between the ages of 16 - 18 can undertake. Beyond this, is the Senior Section of the movement which hopes to retain Rangers within the movement up to the upper limit of 65.
